What happens during a check-up and clean at iCare
We'll update your medical history and discuss any concerns, pain, or changes you've noticed since your last visit. If it's your first time at iCare, we'll ask about your dental history, any medications, and your general health.

Dr Debbie or Dr Dan will visually examine every tooth, your gums, tongue, cheeks, and soft tissues. We check for signs of decay, gum disease, wear, cracks, and oral cancer. We also assess your bite, jaw function, and any existing dental work (fillings, crowns, implants).
When clinically needed, we take low-radiation digital X-rays to detect problems that can't be seen during a visual exam — decay between teeth, bone loss, infections at the root tips, and impacted teeth. New patients receive a comprehensive set of X-rays as part of their initial assessment.

Before we start cleaning, we apply a topical numbing gel to your gums. This is our standard practice for every patient — it takes about a minute to take effect and significantly reduces any sensitivity during the clean.
Step 5: Professional cleaning (scaling and polishing)
Using specialised instruments, we carefully remove plaque and tartar (calculus) from all tooth surfaces, including hard-to-reach areas between teeth and along the gum line. We then polish your teeth to remove surface stains and create a smooth finish that makes it harder for plaque to build up.
